    The role of parental involvement in youth sport experience: perceived and desired behavior by male soccer players

    Parents play a key role in the youth sports educational experience. They are responsible for the introduction of their children to physical or sporting education and their involvement has been associated with sport participation in early stages. The aims of this cross-sectional study were, first, to assess the perceived and desired parental involvement by children and, secondly, to exam-ine their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with any specific behavior. 80 male soccer players filled the Parental Involvement in Sport Questionnaire (PISQ) before or after a training session in presence of a coach. PISQ results revealed excessive active involvement and pressure, insufficient praise and understanding and satisfactory directive behavior from children’s parents. Our findings suggest that excessive parental involvement can cause pressure on children who would prefer parental participation characterized by praise and understanding. A balance between a supporting involvement without putting too much pressure is needed by the parents. To prevent burnout and dropout and to facilitate future practice, parents should be counseled (possibly by a sport educator) on how to positively support their children concerning their sport experience

    Abstract. The increasing depletion of fossil feeds and the environmental concerns linked to the use of traditional energy sources have stimulated both academic and industrial worlds in exploiting new sustainable and renewable suppliers of raw materials [1]. In this framework, lignocellulosic biomass can play an important role, acting as the starting material of a biorefinery leading to biofuels, chemicals, and other value-added products, commonly obtained from petroleum. Recently, numerous protocols for processing lignocellulosic biomass of selected plants have been reported. However, developing an environment-friendly method is still a big goal. This challenge becomes more interesting if lignocellulosic biomass coming from wood wastes could be efficiently treated. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are new sustainable and cheap reaction media, combining the features of ionic liquids and organic solvents. They are made by association of hydrogen-bond donors and hydrogen-bond acceptors, and they can promote the hydrolysis of lignocellulosic bonds [2]. Herein, we report on the microwave-assisted treatment of waste wood flours with DESs formed by choline chloride and oxalic acid to get a cellulosic residue separated from lignin degradation products, identified by NMR spectroscopy. The insoluble deposit was characterized by SEM, TGA, DSC, FTIR-ATR and 13C CP/MAS NMR techniques and could be available for further uses such as nanocellulose production. [1] Haldar D., Purkait M.K.     A non-targeted metabolomics study on Xylella fastidiosa infected olive plants grown under controlled conditions

    In the last decade, the bacterial pathogen Xylella fastidiosa has devastated olive trees throughout Apulia region (Southern Italy) in the form of the disease called “Olive Quick Decline Syndrome” (OQDS). This study describes changes in the metabolic profile due to the infection by X. fastidiosa subsp. pauca ST53 in artificially inoculated young olive plants of the susceptible variety Cellina di Nardò. The test plants, grown in a thermo-conditioned greenhouse, were also co-inoculated with some xylem-inhabiting fungi known to largely occur in OQDS-affected trees, in order to partially reproduce field conditions in terms of biotic stress. The investigations were performed by combining NMR spectroscopy and MS spectrometry with a non-targeted approach for the analysis of leaf extracts. Statistical analysis revealed that Xylella-infected plants were characterized by higher amounts of malic acid, formic acid, mannitol, and sucrose than in Xylella-non-infected ones, whereas it revealed slightly lower amounts of oleuropein. Attention was paid to mannitol which may play a central role in sustaining the survival of the olive tree against bacterial infection.     Polyacetylenes Bearing Chiral-Substituted Fluorene and Terfluorene Pendant Groups: Synthesis and Properties

    The synthesis of the first polyacetylenes bearing chiral fluorene-based pendant groups is described. Poly{9,9-bis[(S)-3,7-dimethyloctyl]fluoren-2-ylacetylene} (PFA1), poly{9,9-bis[(S)-2-methylbutyl]- fluoren-2-ylacetylene} (PFA2), and poly{9,9,9′,9′,9′′,9′′-hexakis[(S)-2-methylbutyl]-7,2′;7′,2′′-terfluoren- 2-ylacetylene} (PFA3) have been obtained by Rh(I)-catalyzed polymerization of the corresponding terminal acetylene monomers 2-ethynyl-9,9-bis[(S)-3,7-dimethyloctyl]fluorene (2a), 2-ethynyl-9,9-bis[(S)-2-methylbutyl]fluorene (2b), and 2-ethynyl-9,9,9′,9′,9′′,9′′-hexakis[(S)-2-methylbutyl]-7,2′;7′,2′′-terfluorene (10). The effect of the alkyl chain length at the C-9 position of fluorene on the structural and conformational aspects of the polymers PFA1 and PFA2 as well as on their chiroptical properties was studied by XRD, DSC, TGA, GPC, UV-vis, and CD. A more planar conformation of the polyenic backbone of PFA1 with respect to PFA2 can be inferred by a red shift of the ð-ð* transition in the UV-vis spectra. Their photoluminescence properties are those typical of fluorene systems. CD measurements evidenced Cotton effects of opposite signs in correspondence of the backbone absorption region, ascribable to an excess of a screw sense of the helical conformations assumed by the two polymers. PFA3 revealed an amorphous structure and exhibited peculiar thermal stability features (as indicated by TGA and DSC). Its emission spectra interest the violet-blue region and do not show any substantial red shift passing from solution to solid state, thus pointing out an aggregation prevention of terfluorene groups by means of the polyacetylene backbone

    Uranium and thorium in lamprophyres of the Altai-Sayan folded region

    The work is devoted to the study of lamprophyres of the Altai-Sayan region. According to X-ray phase analysis, these rocks have a complex mineral composition. According to the TAS diagram, the petrochemical composition varies from alkaline picrites to trachytes. As the INAA shows, the studied samples are significantly enriched with thorium and uranium. Combining the method of electron microscopy and fission radiography (f-radiography), the occurrence forms of thorium and uranium were studied, therefore concentrating minerals were identified

    Peri-Operative Management of Patients Undergoing Fenestrated-Branched Endovascular Repair for Juxtarenal, Pararenal and Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysms: Preventing, Recognizing and Treating Complications to Improve Clinical Outcomes

    The advent and refinement of complex endovascular techniques in the last two decades has revolutionized the field of vascular surgery. This has allowed an effective minimally invasive treatment of extensive disease involving the pararenal and the thoracoabdominal aorta. Fenestrated-branched EVAR (F/BEVAR) now represents a feasible technical solution to address these complex diseases, moving the proximal sealing zone above the renal-visceral vessels take-off and preserving their patency. The aim of this paper was to provide a narrative review on the peri-operative management of patients undergoing F/BEVAR procedures for juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (JAAA), pararenal abdominal aortic aneurysm (PRAA) or thoracoabdominal aortic aneurism (TAAA). It will focus on how to prevent, diagnose, and manage the complications ensuing from these complex interventions, in order to improve clinical outcomes. Indeed, F/BEVAR remains a technically, physiologically, and mentally demanding procedure. Intraoperative adverse events often require prolonged or additional procedures and complications may significantly impact a patient’s quality of life, health status, and overall cost of care. The presence of standardized preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative pathways of care, together with surgeons and teams with significant experience in aortic surgery, should be considered as crucial points to improve clinical outcomes. Aggressive prevention, prompt diagnosis and timely rescue of any major adverse events following the procedure remain paramount clinical needs

    Consensus statement of the Italian society of pediatric allergy and immunology for the pragmatic management of children and adolescents with allergic or immunological diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic

    The COVID-19 pandemic has surprised the entire population. The world has had to face an unprecedented pandemic. Only, Spanish flu had similar disastrous consequences. As a result, drastic measures (lockdown) have been adopted worldwide. Healthcare service has been overwhelmed by the extraordinary influx of patients, often requiring high intensity of care. Mortality has been associated with severe comorbidities, including chronic diseases. Patients with frailty were, therefore, the victim of the SARS-COV-2 infection. Allergy and asthma are the most prevalent chronic disorders in children and adolescents, so they need careful attention and, if necessary, an adaptation of their regular treatment plans. Fortunately, at present, young people are less suffering from COVID-19, both as incidence and severity. However, any age, including infancy, could be affected by the pandemic. Based on this background, the Italian Society of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology has felt it necessary to provide a Consensus Statement. This expert panel consensus document offers a rationale to help guide decision-making in the management of children and adolescents with allergic or immunologic diseases
